Inspired by the architectural style of Humayun’s Tomb, this 16th Century monument was built by Mughal-era Poet Khanzada Mirza Khan Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khanan in 1598 AD for his wife Mah Banu.
Poet Rahim was one of the Navaratnas in the court of Emperor Akbar. He is known for his Hindi couplets (dohas) and his book on Astrology. On his death, Rahim too was buried in this mausoleum.
Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) in India, in coordination with Archaeological Survey of India and the InterGlobe Foundation, had started the conservation work of this Tomb situated at NIzamuddin East New Delhi in the year 2014. It took nearly six years to complete the conservation work. This is considered to be the largest conservation work ever undertaken at a single monument of National importance in India.
