Situated at Mehrauli Village in South Delhi, Zafar Mahal is considered to be the last monumental structure built during the declining years of the Mughal Empire. The last Mughal Bahadur Shah Zafar wished to be buried at this very place. However, the British deported him to Rangoon after the 1857 mutiny, where he died of old age.
I visited the place very recently with the help of a local Sikh guy who had spent his childhood in Mehrauli area. It is situated in a very congested area and in a state of neglect. Though a guard was posted there (and he was kind enough to show us round the place), but he seemed to have no control over the local bad elements frequenting the place.
